Part One ** Part Two ** Part Three ** Part Four ** Part Five

***

It wasn’t as though he had seen Donghae and thought, “Ah, I think I’ll worry myself ill over that one.” Donghae had been on the team already when Kibum arrived, part of a trade that had brought both Siwon and Kibum into the team.

And of course that meant getting a locker in a new clubhouse. He wasn’t a big name, not important enough to really ask for much, but someone had stepped forward and called to the clubhouse manager.

“Hey, how about next to me?”

That had been his first impression of Donghae. A bright smile, the offer of housing a new guy near him.

Donghae had claimed him.

“I’m at short,” Donghae had told him. “So we’ll be working together a lot. Kibum, right?”

He’d nodded, setting his bag down. He’d always been at second base, it seemed, so working closely with the short stop was second nature to him.

It had been Donghae that had seen to his initiation. His first home run with the team had ended in a nice pile of shaving cream to the face. But instead of running away, even after Kibum’s mock chase after him, Donghae had stayed to help wipe Kibum’s face, tongue wiggling out of the corner of his mouth in concentration.

Of course Kibum hadn’t been interested back then. Or at least when he had felt that tiny tug of attraction, he had successfully sat on it. It had been one too many times of Donghae asleep against his shoulder on the plane, too many games won with Donghae’s smile, or games lost with Donghae’s unflagging optimism. Hours spent in the batting cages, blasting sore muscles in the whirlpool, worrying about every ache and pain in their legs. He couldn’t just sleep with Donghae and get it out of his system.

Staring at the other man, he thought sometimes it was like that breathless moment sliding into home, waiting for the umpire to call safe or out. His mind was screaming safe, and his heart wailing out, waiting for the elation of just one more smile...

***

They had lost the last three games, moving into a new city at the end of their last series. Kibum’s goal to avoid Donghae had gone only partially well. They didn’t need conversation on the field. He didn’t need to think to give a quiet “good luck.” But avoiding the showers, eating on his own, trying to get some concept of the space between them...

As he leaned over the railing of the dugout, he stared at Donghae, who stood easily on second base after hitting his double. He was laughing with the other team’s short stop as they waited for the next batter to get situated.

“If you want him, why don’t you do something about it?” Siwon asked from beside him.

Kibum glanced over where their new Chinese pitcher was speaking to the manager.

“Take your own advice first,” he said shortly, and turned to get a drink.

Donghae wasn’t pushing him on it. He was patient, but Kibum could still feel eyes on him when he wasn’t looking. It took those three losses to spur him into action. He didn’t know what he’d find, or what he wanted, but something had to change...

“Let’s check out the city tonight,” he called to Donghae, who was smashing clothes into his bag.

Donghae’s eyes were wide as he looked up. “Okay?” he said cautiously.

Kibum rarely was the one to suggest going out. But, if the situation called for it...

***

Kibum skipped the bar, heading immediately to the half full dance floor, ignoring Donghae’s voice behind him.

The music felt good, thudding through him as he edged into the crowd. Bodies moved against him, and for a long moment he was anonymous, just another person, moving without thought. There was a hand on his hip, and and he turned, prepared to move against Donghae, whether there was reason for him not to or not.

It wasn’t Donghae, but a woman, eyes full of questions as she raised her arms in invitation.

So he moved against her instead.

“Hey,” she said loudly in his ear.

He didn’t respond, gripping her hips and trying not to compare them to Donghae’s. She smelled of flowers, and something sweet, and it did nothing for him. Not the way she moved against him, not anything. He tried to feel it, and though she wasn’t as provocative as some he’d danced with, he might as well have been dancing alone.

He wasn’t sure what made him look up. In the crowd, there was nothing that should have alerted him. He shouldn’t have been able to see anything at all. But the crowd parted for a moment, possibly two, and his world slowed.

Donghae, wrapped against a woman. That curving smile pressed to her shoulder.

The crowd began to flow again, cutting off his line of sight. He couldn’t stay there, and see that. Donghae was...

“Ow!” the woman complained, Kibum’s fingers digging into her.

“Sorry!” he shouted back.

Kibum turned, sliding between people. He had to get out of here.

His hand vised around Donghae’s arm, who jerked in surprise.

“Let’s go!” Kibum shouted, pulling at him.

Donghae’s expression turned sulky.

“You go!” he shouted back.

Donghae would have turned back to the woman he’d briefly let go of if Kibum had let him go. The thought of Donghae staying here, cozied up to the dark-eyed woman was more than he could take. He’d go back to the motel smelling of her, and...

It was impossible. He couldn’t do it. Couldn’t leave him there.

Donghae was too startled to protest as Kibum hoisted him over his shoulder. But there were hands beating against him as he stepped off of the dance floor, edging tables and standing people as they moved for the door.

“Kim Kibum! Put me down! What are you doing?!” Donghae was bellowing. Some variation of all of that until they made it onto the quieter street. He bee-lined for an empty taxi, and finally let Donghae down off of his aching shoulder.

When he could see Donghae’s face, it was flushed and astonished.

“What the hell are you doing?”

“Shut up. Just shut up. We’ll talk about it later.”

He pushed Donghae ahead of him into one of the waiting taxis, giving the driver orders.

His fingers were restless on his bouncing knee, watching the lights and dim blocks roll past as they got closer to their hotel. He needed the time, needed to calm down inside, get all the things riling in him down to a boil so that he didn’t shake Donghae as soon as they got out of the stupid vehicle.

They stood for a second in the cool air.

“Are you drunk?” Donghae demanded. “I didn’t see you drink. What’s wrong with you? You’re the one who wanted to go!”

“Not so you could dance with every bimbo in the city,” Kibum said, and grabbed Donghae’s wrist. “Let’s get inside, it’s cold out here.”

“Every... I only danced with one! Why are you so grabby tonight? It’s still early. I’m going back.”

One bimbo? Kibum didn’t think Donghae realized what that had sounded like. But he couldn’t laugh, his head lowered.

“Come inside with me, Donghae,” he said softly.

He let his thumb ghost over the back of Donghae’s hand.

“Kibum...” Donghae shook his head. “Fine, let’s go in.”

He let Donghae’s arm go as they reached the door of the hotel, nodding at the night clerk and heading directly for the elevator. He could still see that woman’s hands on Donghae, and he had the most peculiar urge to erase it. Make it gone.

He pushed out of the elevator first, staring hard at the room number on his card key, and they walked in silence.

“So, I’ll see you in the morning...?” Donghae said, as Kibum shoved his key into the lock.

He held the door open with one hand, blowing out a slow breath and praying Donghae got the message. Just get into the room, and we’ll sort this out.

Donghae stepped forward hesitantly, pausing beside Kibum for a long moment as though Kibum were going to order him away, before stepping into the room. The “do not disturb” flag went easily into the key hole, and he stepped in behind Donghae.

The door clicked definitively closed. He turned the door’s deadbolt, flipping the top night latch, before turning. He had not locked it for a minute’s chat.

He didn’t expect it would be opened before morning.

“I don’t need you,” he said, looking anywhere but at Donghae. “I don’t love you.”

“Idiot, dumbass,” Donghae said, pushing Kibum back up against the door with his body, pressing his mouth to Kibum’s ear. “Ugh, Kibum... I’d say ‘I don’t love you, either,’ but I think you’d know it was a lie.”

He inhaled sharply, his fists closing on empty air as he tried not to grab Donghae and just...

His fingertips had just barely touched the seams of Donghae’s jeans when he felt Donghae begin to press sweet kisses along his neck.

Sweet kisses was a bit of an understatement. But there was no word for “kisses that made it feel like his body was exploding.”

“Donghae, we can’t... We can’t. If we have a falling out...? The team...”

“You want to get rid of me so soon?” Donghae asked softly.

“We’re the best team in baseball, we can’t...”

“We already are. Kibum, let’s be the best team outside of baseball too.”

Of course, Donghae said that with a smile, mischief in his eyes that faded to wonder as Kibum’s fingers brushed his jaw. He watched as Donghae’s tongue darted out to moisten his lips, and felt a smile curve his own.

He might’ve moaned as their mouths fit together, shaping a kiss that rumbled through him. I want you, he thought, a hand slipping into the curve of Donghae’s back.

The next kiss was sharper, deeper, and Donghae shuddered as Kibum slid his shirt down his arms. They parted noisily, pants and shoes, Kibum’s shirt, all left like stepping stones behind them. Kibum didn’t wait for invitation, clambering atop Donghae’s body as he tossed his small case full of personal items down beside Donghae’s head. Donghae’s ear, his neck... He couldn’t get enough.

“You can slow down,” Donghae said, voice trembling with amusement as he slid a hand up Kibum’s spine. “I’m not going anywhere.”

“I’ve been having wet dreams about you for weeks. Slow isn’t in my vocabulary any more.”

Donghae laughed. And rolled his hips up.

“Slow next time then.”

Absolutely, Kibum thought. Or the time after next. Or next week.

He licked the sweat from Donghae’s neck, and breathed through Donghae’s moan as Kibum eased inside him. If just a sound from Donghae, coupled with that slight movement could send him straight to the edge, he didn’t know how quickly it would last at all.

Multiplication tables might be required.

There was nothing innocent in that face as they kissed, teeth gently catching at lips, Donghae’s sometimes stubborn chin just begging for his mouth.

His heart was strong, strengthened by hours of exercise. He needed all of that tonight.

“I want you,” he whispered, and saw Donghae’s eyes brighten.

He felt the muscles of Donghae’s stomach shudder beneath his hand. Their skin sliding together.

Right then he tried to stop, feeling the edge and scrambling back.

Donghae wouldn’t let him, arms and thighs, body tight around him, moving so that he couldn’t think, could barely breathe...

Donghae cried out, shuddered beneath him, and Kibum’s eyes blurred, helpless against Donghae as the pleasure overwhelmed him.

*

“You okay?” Kibum whispered from where his face had been smushed into Donghae’s shoulder. If Donghae couldn’t run tomorrow, there would be hell to pay... And he didn’t want to see that conversation by any means.

“Mmhmm,” Donghae said, moving a bit so they were more comfortable beside each other. “Hey Kibum... That seemed like a home run, don’t you think?”

Kibum snorted. “Not a grand slam?”

As a grand slam got the most runs that any home run could gather, it seemed more appropriate. Still, Donghae argued back.

They fell asleep before the debate could be completed. Maybe his first major league home run had felt sort of like this, Kibum thought, as Donghae purred his way into sleep against his cheek. But not quite.

***

Donghae was artfully draping his body over Kibum’s when Kibum woke.

“Morning,” Donghae said, sounding a little sleepy.

Staring at those smiling eyes first thing in the morning wasn’t so bad. Though there was a hint of worry there, as though he expected Kibum to regret. Someone would get arrested if Kibum shoved Donghae out with just his pants in his arms now.

Kibum mumbled a greeting back, much more interested in tugging those lips down to his. Donghae was touching him. Kissing him. It was something... Quite incredible. To not push and fight and run away, always ignoring that he was happy when Donghae was near him.

Donghae propped his forearms on Kibum’s chest and just looked at him.

“Hey Kibum... About what we said last night... You know how I feel about you, right?”

“I don’t... You’re my best...” Kibum started, fumbling. Getting around saying it to those puppy dog eyes... He gave up, kissing Donghae quickly. “Yeah,” Kibum said, sighing a bit. “I know. Me...me, too.”

And that was about as much emotional touchy-feely as he could take in one day. He stood, tugging Donghae with him. “Come on, let’s shower.”

He would probably never cheerfully volunteer to run around outside with any of the kids, even if he always said yes when he was asked. And if anyone asked him why his mood was improved, if Donghae was close enough to hear, Donghae always stuck his head in to say, quite seriously, “He sleeps really well lately.” To Kibum’s embarrassment.

They didn’t really have to tell anyone who knew them better. Siwon had given Kibum a subtle thumbs up. Zhou Mi had been unable to hide a grin, even as Kibum had gone grumbling away. Eunhyuk had had to be threatened with exposure of his own clubhouse relationship in order to keep him quiet. Donghae had almost had to tackle him the first "day after" in order to keep him from blurting out the obvious of just why Donghae had been in Kibum's room.

Still, on the field, nothing had changed. They were professionals. He didn’t really have a worry to push back to the back of his mind if he’d wanted to. Still, getting an opportunity to pat Donghae’s butt was an opportunity well taken. His reaction time there was just fine, thank you.

And he had bought a new pair of glasses. Shockingly, Donghae had figured out who he’d been trying to get all along.

Kibum started as Donghae draped himself over his back.

“Hey, good game today,” Donghae said against Kibum’s neck, sending shivers down his spine. “Want to go out?”

Kibum gripped Donghae’s hands and couldn’t help but grin back at him.

“How about a night in?”

Oh god, Kibum with women. Donghae with women. Mmm. :9 Oh but Kihae together, fuck, they are hot like burning. I love jealousy played to fics like this; and how Kibum is jealous and then they're kissing and it's like it doesn't matter because they both realize they want each other. And the sex was hot and "eyes blurring" aslkdjf omg I want them to be together forever.

Teammates' reactions so hilarious. :D And hot hot hot Kihae omg favorites forever. Why does Kihae reduce me to twelve-year-old incoherency?

This AU made me so, so happy. Your writing makes me happy. \o/ ♥♥

The women had good taste at least. XD Hey and with a hotel room so many nights during the season, they have all the privacy they desire. XD

<3 I'm so glad! I felt a bit timid with it, just sort of...getting my bearings, so I hope the next one is better. :)

Thanks so much! <3

Ah, that was the perfect ending. That last sentence just wrapped up this story so beautifully!♥♥♥ A night in, with no internal struggles or sudden kick-outs. :cuddlecuddlecuddle:

Kibum's feelings finally took a toll on his game huh. I guess more than Donghae blatantly sending him love messages or having his wet dream come true, baseball was what really pushed him to do something about his feelings. I loved how for them, they're first and foremost baseball players.♥

I loved how Shiwon attempted to help but got his advice shoved back into his face. XD It's nice to know that Shihan is as obvious as Kihae has been to the rest of the team (lol at hyukkie's big mouth♥).

Absolutely, Kibum thought. Or the time after next. Or next week. XD Loved it! He has to make up for the time he lost fighting against himself. Since, according to Kibum, there has been no change in their game, it must mean that Donghae is quite resilient! ♥

After reading their first meeting, I really feel that Donghae is like a predator that picked his oblivious prey. He played with Kibum, watching his reaction patiently, waiting to see how long Kibum would last against his charms. I think that may be why Donghae was pretty much unfazed by Kibum's hot/cold attitude towards him....

Yes, this arc was beyond awesome! The conflict was fairly simple, but it was really interesting to read as the plot unraveled itself. I loved Donghae's cheerfulness, and the fact that he wasn't stupid or oblivious or anything like that.♥ Kibum was of course awesome, angsting included. Much love!♥♥♥♥♥♥

Their own private celebration? XD

Baseball is their life, for sure... <3 And Siwon, never a good one to hide his pining. XD

Donghae has some time to recover. XD

Donghae at least had Kibum's friendship during that time, till they could finish the fall. <3 Donghae is definitely more than oblivious. <3 So glad you enjoyed!

Thanks so much! <3

I really enjoyed reading this entire arc! (arc? does that mean there are OTHER PAIRING ARCS TO COME?!) I loved how it was Kibum who wanted but was resisting, but in the end (obviously djaskdlas) Donghae feels exactly the same. And how well they work together, on and off the field. djakldls and how damn HOT they are together, oh my god. They are hot, and I love them, and I love you for writing this pairing! ♥

There are more pairings... KyuMi for sure, and likely some for SiHan, etc. :)

Donghae's subtle pushing... Ah, those two. How could they resist each other? XD They have to be in sync... So glad you enjoyed! <3
