A/N: When the idea for this came to me... Had to be done. So, a warmest wish for the new year to everyone. <3

When the thought was conceived, presented to him in such an insidious little way that it made him perk up about it, he put it off entirely. Absolutely no way it was happening. Not even the stories from China, as Sungmin had very good informants in his fellow members, made him believe it was possible. Even after a plan was conceived, there were a few… obstacles to such a daunting project. Namely… Well. How did one manage to get fourteen men, in a timely manner, to do anything? The seven in China he had no worries about. Kyuhyun, once his mind was set, could get what he needed done, he was quite certain. But here…

Sungmin despaired a bit of how he was going to get the remaining six to, of all things, knit for Eeteuk. Knitting was not a hobby he was aware of, in any of them. Once he had spoken to Kyuhyun, confirmed all was a go, he had asked Kyuhyun how he was accomplishing it in China… There had been a short response, told in two pictures. The first, a sweetly smiling Kyuhyun. The second, with a devilish smirk. He read between the lines… It was for Eeteuk. Knit a piece of a scarf, support Eeteuk. Very simple.

So he took it in shifts. Anything could be done a little at a time.

Eunhyuk and Shindong had waged an impressive Knitting Needle Lightsaber battle before settling in. Sungmin had pursed his lips at them, pointing at Yesung who was giving off every impression of being an industrious worker… that was before he made a game of musical chairs of it, attempting to knit upside down at least once before settling down after a swift poke and a few wary glances from the other two. It had warmed his tidy heart to see them working so carefully. He had fed them, and was content that at least three pieces were finished.

Sungmin had stalked Kibum at his latest set, cornering him when he had a free minute for a quick and harried ten minute knitting lesson. This is what he wanted, how he wanted it, how to do it. Call if there are questions. Of course there were no questions, or fuss for that matter. Kibum had shown up two days later with all his rows completed. He had promised to treat Kibum at his earliest convenience. Hadn’t expected any trouble from him...

Heechul he had left almost to the last. It had taken an emergency phone call to China to accomplish Heechul’s piece. Even after Sungmin had assured him that no, knitting was not something that just girls did and you’re insulting your friends, hyung, it had taken some convincing. It had taken less than five minutes of phone time before Heechul had hung up on Hankyung and sat with a half glower, half pout as Sungmin demonstrated the finer arts of casting a stitch. Admittedly, Sungmin had ended up doing most of the work, but as it began to take shape, the gleam in Heechul’s eye had returned, and he had made Sungmin add two extra rows to his section, so there wouldn’t be any doubt which part was his.

Which of course, as the package arrived with the pieces from China, wrapped with love clearly by Ryeowook, left Kangin. Ryeowook, checking in daily with progress from China and eagerly asking how it was going there, sent along a list of things to say and how to bribe Kangin. Sungmin felt pretty prepared. The last time hadn’t gone so badly… It had only been his favorite pair of bamboo needles after all. They were replaceable. And the frustration was something that warmed his heart as well. There was no doubt he would succeed.

And he had.

From multiple requests, Kangin agreed he would record the giving of the scarf to Eeteuk… And this is what they saw…

***

Kangin put the recording camera down with a bit too much force, and the world bobbed a bit as Eeteuk, having been shuffled into optimal position with no explanation whatsoever, looked a bit baffled.

“What have I done now?” Eeteuk asked, his voice lilting as Kangin shoved something at him.

“I have a gift for you…”

Eeteuk considered the perfectly wrapped box, with its cute bow and rather un-Kangin-like appearance.

“Don’t tell me… You made me a scarf, too?”

It was a tease borne of much gossip between the members. What else did they have to talk about, really? And it would only cause a few of them later to shift in embarrassment.

“I’m not telling… Open it!”

Eeteuk peeled at the paper slowly, very slowly. Deliberately even. And peeking up with a grin even the darkest shade couldn’t hide to see the pursed impatience on Kangin’s face. He laughed as he ripped the rest of the paper away, and opened the box.

Eeteuk stared at the scarf with something like shock on his face.

“You… You actually made me a scarf?”

Kangin fairly roared. “Dummy, does it look like I made that? Sungmin would have buried me by now if he had had to sit and coach me through any more than what I did… He was very offended on behalf of the yarn and your neck every time I did something wrong. He’d say ‘Teukie-hyung deserves the best, don’t you think hyung? Be patient and try one more time.’ Then he would rip it out of my hands, fix whatever it was I didn’t know I did, and hand it back with a smile. So it’s from all of us… Everyone did a piece of it.”

Eeteuk’s eyebrows rose.

“You too? Really?”

“Of course… I’m part of “everyone” aren’t I?”

“Kangin-ah with knitting needles…I didn’t think I’d ever see that day.”

“Sungmin.” Kangin said simply, in perfect explanation. “So ah… You have a little piece of all of us to keep you warm?”

Sungmin’s rehearsed line tripped awkwardly out. He watched as Eeteuk silently counted the colors, fingers brushing the initials embroidered on each rectangle.

“Fourteen? Oh..”

“Fifteen, actually.” Kangin tapped a block at the end. “This one has two colors, yours and mine.”

Eeteuk’s fingers smoothed the dual colored yarn.

“Sungmin’s choice?”

“Mine. Sungmin wanted you to have a block of your own, but I said someone had to keep you in line.”

Eeteuk’s delighted laugh. “Who is keeping who in line?”

“Here, put it on, put it on…”

He squeezed Eeteuk’s shoulder for one long moment, to get him to sit still as he wound the wide and fluffy scarf around the slender neck. He looked on in consternation as Eeteuk tried to pull his head down like turtle into the cloth… Until he saw the tears.

“Why are you crying?” he blustered, smacking a hand on Eeteuk’s knee. “Did we leave pins in it by accident?”

“Ha ha.” Eeteuk tried to brush the tears away himself, until Kangin picked up the end of the scarf, pushing away Eeteuk’s fingers so he could blot his face.

“Teukie, look, you can even use me to dry your tears.” He pointed to Yesung’s. “You can blow your nose here. Yah, what do you say when you get a gift?”

“Thank you.” He turned to the camera, having apparently figured out what it was for. “Thank you. Thank all of you. I’ll treasure this and think of all of you every time I wear it… and I know it will take good care of me. I want to see you soon…”

“Thanks everyone for pitching in so I didn’t have to do it all myself,” Kangin grinned and patted Eeteuk’s head. “Sungmin will thank you all with cute things, too. Everyone come home safely.”

The video at that point was a little shaky, the table it was sitting on brushed as they both stood up. Two sets of legs and the trailing end of a colorful scarf were visible as, if going by Eeteuk’s laughter was any indication, some kind of enthusiastic bear hug was being given.

“Kangin...”

“Oh, the camera.”

Kangin’s cheeky grin filled the screen. He winked.

“Merry Christmas.”
